Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Drug trafficking is a major challenge in many Nigerian communities, including Kontagora LGA, Niger State, with severe implications for public health, security, and social stability. Public relations (PR) plays a critical role in combating this menace by creating awareness, promoting behavioral change, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Through strategic communication campaigns, community engagement, and media advocacy, PR can effectively highlight the dangers of drug trafficking and encourage public participation in its prevention. Research indicates that targeted PR efforts have been instrumental in reducing drug-related crimes and empowering communities to resist trafficking activities (Ogbonna & Musa, 2024).

  2. What PR strategies are effective in mobilizing community support against drug trafficking?
  3. What challenges hinder the success of PR campaigns in combating drug trafficking?

  2. H1: Community-based PR strategies reduce drug trafficking incidents.
  3. H2: Addressing resource constraints improves the success of PR campaigns against drug trafficking.

1.6 Significance of the Study
The study provides a framework for using PR to combat drug trafficking, offering actionable insights for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders. Its findings aim to enhance public safety and social stability in Kontagora LGA.
